Ermida de Nossa Senhora da Soledade
This was the first stone building built in Olhão and was used as main church until the construction of the church of “Nossa Senhora do Rosário”.
The date of its construction is unknown, but there are some historians that think that this is the church mentioned by some records as the chapel established in Marim by King João I (in the 14th century).
The altar panels date from the 19th century and the image of Saint Luzia from the 18th century.
At the entrance a tombstone covers an ancient well which originally was used to clean the chapel.
Originally the place known as Olhão belonged to the parish of St Peter of Faro, then later it became part of the parish of Quelfes, around 1614. It was not until 1695 that Olhão became an autonomous parish, nevertheless still belonging to Faro. Finally in 1826, Olhão gained autonomy as a council, and now unites the parishes of Olhão, Pechão, Quelfes, Fuzeta and Moncarapacho.
