A delightful old fishing village with whitewashed houses, it’s narrow streets running down to the water's edge where the fishing boats are moored and with lovely views over the sea and Alvor estuary. Alvor is a small fishing village that has recently grown into a major tourist centre. However it is still the place where you can still watch the fishermen bring in their catch daily down at the old quay, but it also has a new promenade, and numerous up-to-date tourist facilities and plenty of investment opportunities.
In amongst these facilities, in the suburbia is Alto Golf's 18-hole course, the last to be designed by the legendary English golfer, Sir Henry Cotton, who has also designed the championship course of the venerable Penina Hotel, 5 minutes from Alvor on the EN12. Within 10 to 20 minutes drive you can also find Morgado, Palmares Golf and the Boavista Courses, and also the Carvoeiro Courses. It has also tennis courts and lawn bowling centers and, in Torralta, a tenpin bowling alley.
The heady nightlife of Praia da Rocha and the excellent shopping in Portimão are a short bus ride or taxi cab away. Alvor gives you the opportunity to enjoy the charm of old Portugal along with fine beaches, good shopping, plenty of both Portuguese foreign bars and restaurants and great investment opportunities.
