The Clock Tower

The Castel and its Walls
Most of the composition was destroyed on the earthquake of 1755 and all that remains are the ruins of a tower (Porta de Sant’Ana) and the defense tower of the north side, today a popular restaurant.
Historical Centre
The progress has transformed Albufeira in to a busy city dedicated to leisure and tourism. But the streets of the old Cerro (hill) da Villa still remain its typical white houses settled on narrow streets and the enchant of a Moorish arch on Travessa da Igreja Velha. This is where a mosque was located, replaced by the first church of Albufeira.

Here the beaches are perfect and very popular for the practice of nautical sports such as windsurf, sailing, water skiing and diving. Some of the golf fields reach the sand of the beaches so that one never forgets the soft, golden sands are willing to give you some well deserved peace of mind.
The delicious Cuisine
The pleasures at table when coming to Albufeira, must start with the always fresh fish and seafood. Who resists to the grilled sardines, or the grilled perch or sea bream? Or to the juicy lobsters caught on the cliffs?
For the ones that enjoy the typical food, there’s a wide range of choice between the traditional recipes from the fishermen and the corn meals followed by pork meats brought by the farmers. Do not forget the very typical and famous Algarvian sweets, made with the local almond, fig and oranges.
Art from the People
It is very easy to find in Albufeira original handicraft as the many craftsmen continue to produce typical shoes, copper and brass pieces, as well as laces, baskets and hand-painted tiles.
